In September 2019 we were given the most amazing opportunity to take on the long unused dry dock in Cowes. The yard, known as Marvins Yard, and later Coles Yard was in a poor state, due to the dock gates being removed in the 1990’s.
The dock gates were removed and the concrete gate buttresses removed to allow a wider dock entrance for wide jet drive vessels to be hauled up stern first to allow work on the jet units. Unfortunately the tide rising high in the dock meant that little other work on vessels could be done.
The dock had also filled with silt which had to be removed to allow operations to proceed. One of the first jobs was to build new dock gates. We made the gates on side in our workshop. They work well.
